Is there a word for those things that only exist in the absence of something else? For example: cold is not an actual thing, it is only the absence of heat, dark is only the absence of light, etc.

Heat is not an actual thing, it is only the absence of cold. light is only the absence of dark, etc.

Dumbf'edness is not an actual thing, it's merely the absence of intelligence.
