order of ship names and types are now inverted, why?

It's common now to see ship names and types in the style of <name> <type>. For example in the August 15 Wall Street Journal you see a reference to "Limnos frigate". In the past it was always <type> <name>, for example "battleship Missouri" or famously in the Beach Boys song: "sloop John B". Why the change to name first, followed by type?

I really think its more due to the fact that periodicals have all been heavily stripped of editing skills o that much of the news stuff we read is crap. SOMETIMES thye dont even spellcheck headlines.
