Ms. de Havilland was 104 and one of the last surviving actors from old Hollywood. She was certainly the last of the major stars of Gone With the Wind, even outlasting Cammie King (who played Bonnie).

She was a two-time Oscar winner, for To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949).

She is also the namesake to the de Havilland law, a published judicial opinion interpreting California Labor Code Section 2855, a California law which prevents a court from enforcing specific performance of an exclusive personal services contract beyond the term of seven calendar years from the start of service.

RIP, Olivia.

We who grew up with the rivalry between Olivia and her sister, Joan loved 'em. And the feud, for many of us, was our first taste of Hollywood fascination.

She is the end of an era.
