How to continue run with three way switches

I am a bit confused about some three way diagrams I am looking at, they show the specific connections for the switches and lights but do not show how to continue the run to other fixtures, I assume I would make a pigtail where the two wire comes into the first box, using the black from the pigtail to power the three way and also continuing the run to, say an outlet nearby, but inwant to be sure I won’t also be turning the outlet on and off when I use the lights, in other words, if the three way occurs in the middle of the run, does a regular pigtail work to continue the run downstream?
