Artificial diseases are conspiracy theories that claim that some pharmaceutical companies are responsible for the creation of certain conditions and diseases like HIV/AIDS, Ebola or Covid-19. One of the most viral conspiracy theories was about the HIV/AIDS. In the earliest years of the 1980s, during the Cold War, the KGB of the Soviet Union and its former chairman Andropov created Operation INFEKTION also named Operation DENVER, a disinformation campaign meant to plant the idea that the United States scientists at Fort Detrick, Marylan secretly created the HIV virus as a biological weapon to kill African-Americans, drug addicts, the homeless and gay people. The claim first appeared the 17 July 1983 in a pro-Soviet Indian newspaper Patriot purposely published by the KGB.
