@chai2,
Yeah probably why it doesn't sit well with me.

I was wondering if my initial thoughts that this is not a good idea was being the "no fun police" or not.

I read some of the comments from the article that people added and it seemed whenever anyone said anything negative like this "When I was a kid, they stopped putting candy pills in the toy doctors kits because generally speaking... isn't it a bad idea? Let's all start teaching our kids that medicine is just like candy and see how that works out in the opioid crisis that we live in. This store is just a few doors down from an elementary school. Nice touch."

People would respond like - lighten up! and Stop being so overly protective and paranoid.

I was wondering if maybe I was being paranoid.

Either way it doesn't sit well with me - but it is a free country - just wonder how it will go over - granted Boston has a lot of colleges so maybe it will work - just an odd spot in the North End - I would imagine it to be placed closer to where more colleges reside rather than near the Paul Revere House.

@Linkat,
I am still on the side of "what's the problem?". We give kids pills for everything from vitamins for sniffles to antibiotics for ear infections ... and that is the connection kids make to pills.

Any kid who is saavy enough (or dumbass enough) to make a connection to illegal drugs isn't going to be scandalized. I don't see who we are even protecting.

This seems like a case of overreacting to me.

You're not being paranoid.

Generally I find people who tell me to lighten up about something I've given thought to, have their heads up their ass.

I think this has a lot to do with whether the children in question are yours.

1. If someone comments on my kids... "Oh my Gawd! How could you let your kids have fake candy pills?!". My reaction is likely to be some form of the phrase "Buzz Off! and take care of your own kids". (The exact strength of this response will likely be determined by social factors and how upset I am by my latest interaction with a Bernie supporter).

2. If someone comments on their own kids... "I don't feel comfortable with little Johnny seeing pills made out of candy", I am likely to respect them. Different parents have different parenting styles and different kids have different needs. To be honest, I might entertain a passing judgmental thought... but I will keep it to myself because frankly this is none of my business.

3. I suppose this is a general case "Oh No! This might hurt the children". This is a case for debate, but in truth lumping together all children doesn't make much sense. I am happy to entertain this as a hypothetical discussion. But it doesn't mean that much.

There is nothing more annoying than being judged for your parenting choices by someone who doesn't themselves have kids.

@maxdancona,
You're coming off, more and more as first rate idiot max!

Whether or not people have children in no way negates their right to state their views and opinions. Drug abuse has an impact on all of us.

@Sturgis,
So I guess he said something about people who don't have children can't know anything about them?

I think we should get every doctor, in particular pediatritians, teachers, social workers, police officers, etc. that don't have kids, all in one place, and in one fell swoop tell them they don't know what they're talking about.

It'll save a lot of time.

I thought we established this years ago. What we have here is an overwound brigade of uptight prudes.There, I said it. I wasn't going to to be completely honest, but you all forced me into it.

This isn't about drug abuse. It is about candy! Deep down, you all know you are being silly.

In the 1980s (my generation) Dee Snider was hauled up before Congress to testify because the PMRC was attacking Rock Music as being harmful to "the children". They made a list of themes that were considered harmful to children which included "masturbation" and "defiance to authority".

You have heard the song "We're not Gonna Take It!"... that was Dee Snider's song. He wrote it. And that rather cheesy by uplifting song was included on the list called (I kid you not) The Filthy Fifteen because it inspired defiance.

Dee Snider (who happened to be quite intelligent) relished the chance, and made the Congress look like fools.

I respect the ability of parents to make choices for their own children.

But this self-righteous protective nonsense was ridiculous then, and it is just as ridiculous now.

It's just candy people!.
