Tariq Aziz Rumors and Stratfor's Approach to Covering Iraq Rumors swirled March 19 about the death or defection of Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz. The reports, contradictory and confused, were finally refuted when Aziz appeared at a press conference in Baghdad. The rumors likely were part of an ongoing psychological warfare campaign aimed at sowing discord in the Iraqi regime. Stratfor received some criticism, prior to Aziz's appearance, for not broadcasting the rumors. We believe events have validated our approach to covering the war with Iraq.

Anti-War Camps Scramble for Solutions

With time running out, leaders in and close to the United Nations are
expediting efforts to block or delay a U.S.-led war in Iraq. Three
prominent plans have emerged, but there is little chance that any will deter Washington.
Kurds To Fight Under U.S. Command - For Now

U.S. special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has reported that Kurdish Iraqi
opposition forces have agreed to fight under the U.S. command. This
potentially marks a trilateral agreement between Turkey, the United
States and the Kurds. However, the deal likely is to be short-lived.
