@ahirshalini93,
Quote:
The mean annual temperature of the interior is −57 °C (−70.6 °F). The coast is warmer;
on the coast Antarctic average temperatures are around −10 °C (14.0 °F) (in the warmest
parts of Antarctica) and in the elevated inland they average about −55 °C (−67.0 °F) in
Vostok.[12][13] Monthly means at McMurdo Station range from −26 °C (−14.8 °F) in August
to −3 °C (26.6 °F) in January.

@ahirshalini93,
I've been to Antarctica, to Esperanza Base, and the tour company gave us red heavy jackets to ward off the cold. The reason I took the trip was to visit South Georgia Island to visit Ernest Shackleton's grave site, because I read about his explorations of the Antarctic, and how he saved all his men under very challenging conditions. He is one of my life's hero. After he passed away, they took his remains back to Ireland, but his wife said, he belonged in Antarctica.

Grytviken is the whaling station made famous by Shackleton's reunion with civilization on South Georgia after losing his ship, the Endurance, to Antarctic pack ice in 1915. Toast "Bring 'em Back Shack" at his gravesite in a small cemetery overlooking the bay.

@Region Philbis,
I don't remember the cold. It's probably because my expectations was "it's going to be damn cold." Actually, we had sunshine throughout our visit, and it was "warm."

There are photos of Ernest Shakelton's grave site here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bccwdlR1qf0 I also had a similar photo taken at this site. https://www.currypilot.com/csp/mediapool/sites/CurryPilot/News/story.csp?cid=4257025&sid=919&fid=151. That's the Ms Marco Polo, the same ship. I also cruised on the Mediterranean on the Ms Marco Polo.

@ahirshalini93,
The "normal" temperature is rapidly changing and rising. Today's normal will soon be just a memory.

@Sturgis,
I believe you are correct; both poles are showing glacier melt.
