Can you help?

So I saw parts of a film when I was very young and all I can remember was that a woman was watching the TV and drinking a cup of tea or coffee and her doorbell rang. When she answered it a man came barging into her home and if I remember rightly, she tried to get a gun from her closet or something but it was too late and the man shot the woman and I think she died.

It was either 80s, 90s, or early 2000s. The woman was also blonde if that helps. She may have recognised the man or he could have been an ex partner or something.
