The Acme Company manufactures widgets. The distribution of widget weights is bell-shaped. The widget weights have a mean of 65 ounces and a standard deviation of 6 ounces.
Use the Standard Deviation Rule, also known as the Empirical Rule.
Suggestion: sketch the distribution in order to answer these questions.

a) 95% of the widget weights lie between __ and __.

b) What percentage of the widget weights lie between 59 and 77 ounces? __ %

c) What percentage of the widget weights lie above 47 ? ___%

@Lia Hunt,
Here is a link to the empirical rule.

It says that 68% of the distribution falls within one sigma, 95% falls within two sigma, 99.7 falls within three sigma.

a) The rule says that 95% falls between -2 sigma and +2 sigma. Can you calculate that?

b) If the mean is 65 and the standard deviation (sigma) is 6 then 59 represents minus one sigma (65 - 6 = 59). 77 is plus two sigma. Using the rules from the link can you figure out how much is between them? It might be easier to figure out how much is not between them.

c) 47 is minus two sigma. Use the same technique again.
