If NPD stems from a childhood wound. How does subclinical narcissism develop?

I've heard that when people are diagnosed with NPD, they say their full blown narcissism stems from a childhood wound, which enables them to develop the mask of superiority. While those with NPD make up 1-5% of the population, many more have traits or are subthreshold for the disorder. So would traits of narcissism stem from a childhood wound also? Or how the child was raised? Or are some born with narcissistic traits?

@adariush,
Those are all good questions and I hope someone here can assist you in finding good literature on this. But I doubt it. I think you'll have to dig in and do a fair bit of research. But that should prove worthwhile. Good luck.
