advice needed on meeting someone

I am a gay male. There is a married man that wants to meet me. He has always thought about being with a man but has denied those feelings. He has decided he wants to act on them before he gets too old. He is trying to come up with a backstory on why we know each other. I am not sure what to do. I really like him, he is really nice. I know he is going to do this with someone and trusts me to be the one. Do I help him with the backstory? I told him to keep it simple.
