Looks like the move of able2know was very successful - but I fear they took over the host of the IMDb message boards Laughing Laughing Laughing

Now we just need some regular posters here...

P.S.: I am very upset about the problems at the IMDb! At least "Classic Film" is working, but I'd wanted to share this story with you all:

Confused ostriches raised on farms are falling for their keepers, according to a researcher.

A study found that the birds were directing their courtship rituals at humans rather than their own species.

And Dr Charles Paxton, a statistician and ecologist at St Andrews University, said it was lucky that the farmers did not venture into the ostrich pens.

"You would not want to go into a pen with an amorous ostrich," he said.

"Ostriches weigh a great deal and have very sharp claws. It would be very, very dangerous indeed."

Dr Paxton's findings have been published in the journal British Poultry Science.

His research also earned him an Ig Nobel award, a spoof prize given annually for achievements that "cannot or should not be reproduced".

Dr Paxton will be giving talks on his study in Manchester and Edinburgh in the coming days as part of National Science Week.

The research was carried out in Oxfordshire during the ostrich farm boom of the mid-1990s.

Farmers had become puzzled by a lack of egg-laying - even though they frequently saw the African birds becoming sexually aroused.

Dr Paxton said: "The farmers couldn't understand why every time they went to check on their ostriches they saw them engaging in courtship behaviour.

"What we found was that these animals were mostly displaying courtship behaviour directed at the farmers.

"When human beings weren't around, their level of sexual behaviour went right down."

He said that ostriches showed sexual interest in a number of ways.

"The male drops on his knees in front of the female, puffs his wings out, throws his neck out and makes a booming, groaning noise. It is called kantling behaviour," he said.

"The female drops her neck right down to the ground and clicks her beak."

Dr Paxton, who observed the birds with colleague Charles Deeming, said the behaviour did not depend on the sex of either the farmer or the ostrich.

He believed the birds had become sexually confused after being raised from birth with humans.

One male that mated properly with females of his species had been reared in a zoo with other ostriches.

Why must I think now about Australians and sheep????? Embarrassed

Hey Brunt!
Looks like people in charge here are very quick, they had said that it would take all week-end long for the move and things would be functional only on Monday, but it was back in business Saturday Morning. I'm very impressed. I don't know if you have notice but there is a new button here in our private forum, which can allow us the see posts from 1 day right until 1 year. Before the move posts inactive for 7 days were automatically deleted. But not anymore, which is really great! Smile

On the other hand IMDb, it quite a mess right now. The trouble seems only restraint to 'The Sandbox' and 'The Soapbox'.

And about your story with the ostriches, why do I feel that I don't give a damn about them. Razz Smile And I agree with you, about Australian and sheeps, read somewhere that it can be very lonely out there! Embarrassed

And I will make another post about my DVD collection.

I would like an ostrich steak right about now, with a nice salad/bleau cheese.

What's up with the IMDb?
It is almost impossible to enter the more popular boards like "The Sandbox", "The Soapbox" or "I Need Tp Know". You have to wait for 10 minutes, and then you can read only "Koboom - something went wrong" Evil or Very Mad

And other boards like "Classic Film" take minutes until they are loaded...

That's the worst server problem ever with the IMDb Message Boards!!! Crying or Very sad

I had ostrich stew last year in South Africa. it was tasty! It had a little gamey aftertaste but was much better than the crocodile!

It seems catch as catch can on the boards. I was on once this morning and after posting a message, I haven't been able to get into the Sandbox or Soapbox. I have checked replies by going into my profile and pulling up my last posts. Then if you click on your soap or sand box post, you can get there!! Very Happy However, it does you no good becasue no one else can get into your posts! Crying or Very sad
Bottom line is that this is really bad. The other day I was waiting for the boards to load and I looked at the number of posts on all the boards. There were 30600+ in both the best and worst board and in the Soapbox. They were the leaders of the boards. Then a day later, I noticed that Best and Worst seemed to lose about 60 messages. I am wondering if anyone got deleted and they lost posts. Anyway, I am wondering if the number of posts on those boards have made it ddifficulltto get on. It is interesting that, while people complain about the Soapbox, it is the most posted board on the site.

It's like Bingo...
After 10 attempts I was finally able to post something in The Sandbox.
Thank God I usually spend my Monday evenings for reading "What Classics Did You See Last Week", so I will give the IMDB staff one more day before being angry with these problems

About eating ostriches - I've tried both ostrich and antelope in a Mongolian restaurant in Germany two years ago (I've always thought that Mongolia is not in Africa, but apparently I was wrong!). Antelope tasted like nothing special, but ostrich was really nice, I prefer to eat meat with low fat.
Thanks to the Mad Cow Disease ostrich became popular in Germany, there are even some ostrich farms now in Germany (please, no jokes about German porns and sexual disorientated ostriches!!!), but it is still very, very expensive...
