"My mother was asleep, lying on the couch" , I don' t think it is acceptable. Between "asleep" and "lying on the couch", if one must subordinate the other, "lying on the couch" should be the superior, and the sentence should be revised into "My mother was lying asleep on the couch". Am I right!
THANKS @HELPERS
@hkhlcq,
That is better than my previous revision. (Which I didn't send because I wasn't satisfied with it. - "She was lying on the couch asleep.") I didn't know whether there should be a comma or not.
@Ponderer,
So, we cannot say "She was asleep, lying on the couch". Am I right? Thanks!
@hkhlcq,
I don't know if that is incorrect. I just think "...lying asleep on the couch." is better.
