sentence writing：verb choice and logic

"Being a volunteer can let us have a new angle to observe the society, which is helpful to our way of thinking in our future."

I think " let us have" is not direct compared with "allow us a new angle", and concerning the which clause , if you have a volunteer job, it is helpful mostly to your present way of thinking. Am I right? Thanks!
