I have a wood lathe...the Label
Input: 1PH 15.7A/3PH 8.4A 200-240V 50/60Hz
Output: 3PH 0-240V 7.5A 2.9KVA 2HP
The wall socket has a large 30amp 240 volt The lathe has 15v 220 volt plug.
Can I put a 30 amp 240 plug on the lathe or should I have the wall socket replaced with a 15 amp 220 volt ?? Please advise.

@sheiner,
I don't have the expertise to recommend changing the plug, but I can tell you that "30 amps" for the wall socket means that the wiring/breaker/ etc. will handle twice as much current as a 15 amp socket, so I wouldn't change it.

@sheiner,
Think of amperage as a measurement of current flow. More water will flow through a 3/4" hose than a 1/2" hose. (Less resistance) A starter motor on a car engine draws more current than a headlight, so there is a jumper-cable size wire going to the starter from the battery. Resistance to current flow creates heat.

I would consider looking for an adapter that will bridge the difference between both plugs.

@oralloy,
Well, thanks a lot for that "Why didn't I think of that?" moment.
