I've come across this phrase "Phan de ma!" in a short story, whose context is:
They’d come to the gates with their bowls and say 'Phan de ma! '
Not sure if it's Hindi but looks like it. I'd really like to know its meaning. Appreciate your help!
@gloriousfall,
In Vietnamese (with accents) it means 'baseplate'.
@rhymer,
thanks so much for your reply rhymer!
The author is a British Indian though. That's why I thought it might be Hindi or Bengali.
