I'm racking my brain for the slang, derogatory term for this creamed chicken, peas, mushrooms, and pimento/red pepper staple often served at banquets decades ago. It was served over a carb (noodles, rice) or in a pastry shell, and over the decades waned in popularity as a large scale entree due to tastelessness. It's driving me crazy - what was it called?
Beef and gravy over bread, toast, or noodles has been called “sh$t on a shingle” but I don’t know about any chicken dish.
@marglittle,
dynamited chicken was used for chicken a la king or chicken cacciatore
click on the link in blue for reference
@ehBeth,
Is that anything like dynamiting fish?
@roger,
?
apparently it's some kind of sailor's term
@ehBeth,
Not quite. You set off a charge in the water and the fish are unconscious or dead from the concussion, and float to the top. That's what I heard, anyway. I was never much interested in fishing.
@roger,
the dynamited chicken is a sailor's term (didn't you look at the link ?

)
@ehBeth,
Of course not. I know about dynamiting fish, so why would I go look?
