Hi, please teach me how to solve the following math question.

Lisa had $37.5 more than Beth.If Lisa gave Beth $49.5,Beth would have 4 times as Lisa. How much do they have altogether?

@Loh Jane,
Let L be the amount Lisa has and B the amount Beth has.

Quote:
Lisa had $37.5 more than Beth.

L = 37.5 + B

Quote:
If Lisa gave Beth $49.5,Beth would have 4 times as Lisa.

B + 49.5 = 4 x (L-49.5)

Solve those two equations for L and B, then add them together to get the answer.
