My friend has hearing problem in one ear

I am going through the same thing. Went to an audiologist for a hearing test and then get recommendation from him to see a ENT doctor. My one ear could not be treated with a hearing aid since it goes completely deaf sometimes and then hearing comes back slowly. I will need to see an ENT doctor soon. My audiologist never mentioned ear surgery to treat the problem. I am thinking I might have otosclerosis.

What does your friend's regular doctor recommend which one your friend should visit?
