Thank you Deb, I found the information interesting and enlightening. There is so much I do not know about the history of the area and it is something all of us should know since it is such an important area of the world right now.

If anyone has any additional references to these please feel free to add them.

There are references in the Africa and Asia forums. Some countries in the Middle East, such as Israel, are considered to be a part of Asia, whereas others, such as Egypt, are considered to be a part of Africa.

You can google Judaism, Islam etc and come up with hundreds of very interesting links.
