If the big bang is correct then is not all matter entangled in some way?
My layman's understanding is that it all started with a sub atomic singularity.

It very well might be.

@rosborne979,
Following on the "spooky action at a distance" thing and particles popping in and out of existence, could the concept of distance be irrelevant with regards to interstellar travel? Assuming you could tap the universes dark energy and had a snazzy dimensional navigation device. (Blue collar thought bubble)

@Butcho,
No amount of energy of any type can accelerate matter beyond the speed of light. The only way to relocate from one point in space to another, faster than the speed of light, is to somehow "cheat" the distance and avoid actually moving through space. And nobody knows how to do that. I suppose a snazzy dimensional device is as good any given that this is mere speculation.

@rosborne979,
Thanks for the replies ros this is the first forum I've ever felt inclined to participate in. When I try to discuss the subject matter with friends and colleagues, I get a blank look in return and have to drop it for fear of ostracisation. I find this stuff to be as interesting as all get out, anyway, back to the talking point, I'm aware of the problems of FTL travel and was hypothesising a ''cheat'' as you say, using something we haven't discovered yet. I'm tipping the exotic Quantum realm will yield if not an answer, then a direction in which to continue. Sometimes the best discoveries are made by accident, if that's not a bad word to use when referring to the large hadron collider!
