How to describe a grain-food i.e. rice having impressive capacity to swell when being cooked in a good English . Especially when it has more capacity when compared with others (varities) of its' kind on same measure before being cooked.

@iandu76,
Would something like this work for you?

"This particular type of rice significantly expands in volume when cooked as compared to other varieties."

@hightor,
I am hoping there could be a shorter and stylish or more common way used by English native speakers to express such situation. As in my local language. I researched on reverse dictionary at.www.onelook.com, it gave me some words i.e. expansive, expansible. That is why I asked here for better help. People suggested using the "expand" word as in your contribution. So what do you see about using the above "expansive and expensible" words to express the situation i.e. the rice is expansive or the rice is expansible etc. Thank you.

@iandu76,
I agree with Hightor. I can't think of anything shorter or more stylish that wouldn't sound awkward. If you told me about "expansive rice" I think about a huge area of rice plants covering a swampy countryside.

Languages are different, you can express things in a compact way in one language that in another language you can't.

@maxdancona,
What about " this rice gets plumper than the other or it plumps up than the other". Are these good in the context?

Apart from the above suggested words, can the word "enlarge" be used in the context. For example "this rice variety enlarges well when cooked. This rice variety has more enlarging capacity than the rest".

@iandu76,
"Enlarging capacity" is not really an apt choice in this case. Why not stick with a version of the verb "to swell"?

"This rice variety swells significantly when cooked."
