Should I move on?

I have only dated one person and our relationship was 4.5 years. Everyone tells me that I deserve better, but it wasn’t until recently I felt this way myself. He drinks too much and also always chooses his dad and his stupid requests over me (even after four years). I love him, I know I love him, but I told him that I just don’t think I can see him. Now, I’m missing him and keep wanting to text him but it’s hard and I don’t know what to do. I feel like he will never love me as much as I love him and even when I told him I couldn’t see him his only response was “okay”. Does anyone have any advice here? And no I’m not in highschool/college. I’m 25 and he will be 30 in May.

@Lewlew,
You do deserve better.

You spent your big relationship-forming years with someone who didn't appreciate you. You allowed him to prioritize someone else over you. You allowed him to take you for granted.

Imagine 30 years like that. It's not a pretty picture.

Get yourself some counseling (I am not a doctor). Get some tools for enhancing and shoring up your self-esteem.

Yes, it can be scary to upset the status quo. But the status quo sucks. It won't change until YOU are the one to force the change.

Really - His response was "OK"?

That should tell you something.
