@farmerman,
Well, th scentlless dryer napkins seems to be the way t go. I loaded the bag with several naplkins an left em in few days.Then I changed these and put in another batch. Took em out today and put the book in a paper bag with baking soda.The book smells 99% better just with the dryer nappies, but ill cap it off with the soda and then pop the book in the workshop shelves.

@farmerman,
Have you checked with the Library of Congress? They have to care for everything, maybe they have a website.

All the other suggestions sound fine to me, but maybe LOC has another idea.

Good luck

Do these books already exist online? Or are they one of a kind.

Can you have them digitized? I would sure be interested in seeing them.

@maxdancona,
I collect these early school science books (mostly biology and agricultureal botany). They are so "of the time" and they are preachy about "inferior races", and Bibical Creationism. Ive looked for them on line to lift sections for discussion in classes (in one case I used em in a court case). I was disappointed at what is not preserved on line, so keeping these books is vital to make arguments about how , less than fact based, was our earlier education process.

Fortunately the cell phone is probably the easiest way to make"clips " of segments of these books for student notes and court documents

@maxdancona,
Im thinking of doing a blog regarding where weve been in some of our education "theories" (mostly in science ) . Ill se about posting a bibliography and some segments. They are often funny, sometimes scary, but always surprising

In the early 1970s I dated a teacher-training student. They were fed stuff by this guy called Piaget. I don't know where his reputation stands these days. Oh, and Maslow.

@centrox,
ya where everything in secondary ed was more important than the subject. I soent more time in my early college teaching days playing elementary instructor than college level.
