Okay so QUESTION:

I recently obtained a blue kyanite crystal with mica and in the store it was mostly blue with some of the black mica properties but by the time I got it home it was completely black.

what caused this and is there anything I should do?

Ask the store what kind of lighting they use.

Kyanite can show blue fluorescence under UV light. I imagine a gemstone store might rig some UV lamps to better show their products. You can get such lamps. Try this on Google: "UV Lamps and Cabinets for Viewing Rocks and Minerals"
