Hi guys
I was looking up some examples of 'gather' in the dictionary, and I found these two different forms but seemingly are the same meaning.

a. A crowd soon gathered.
b. A large crowd was gathered outside the studio.

Anyone who knows why and can you please explain this for me?

Thank you kindly!

Have you studied 'active and passive voice ' in sentence structure?
