I was astounded to learn, 'cause its hum drowns out other distracting sounds. I too use one, tho at low speed, but just to provide a slight air movement, 'd be annoyed by a draft !!

I had a girlfriend who lived near a railroad freight yard that worked all night and when she came to sleep over at my house, at first she couldn't get to sleep because it was "too quiet".
