@fairylover,
That's kind of a general question so it's hard to answer, so I will answer it generally.

People have differing communication styles so sometimes what is easy for you and me to chatter on about is difficult for others - so cut some slack. And talk, as in ask - what do you want to talk about? When all conversations are overly fraught with meaning, a lot of people clam up. So - can you small talk with this guy at least?

Get better at communicating with him. You should focus on this, communication is a two way street... you have responsibility for your side.

@fairylover,
Small talk is talking about the weather, or about the garden of the neighbours, or how orange is your favorite colour. Generally speaking, small talk is a conversation where no subject is discussed that has deeper meaning or deals with problems you both deal with. I'm not sure how to explain it clearer.

As for what you can do best to make him communicate better, yeah, more information is needed to give proper advice.

@najmelliw,
My boyfriend has a hard time opening up to me,and he has a lack of communication skills with me.I don't push him into talking to me or anything like that,I do talk to him,but I don't force him to do anything.

@fairylover,
Men in general might not be the best conversationalists out there. Keep that in mind: one of my former girlfriends accused me of something similar. Try to have a conversation about something he likes to do over dinner or something. See how that goes. Perhaps discuss a future date: ask him if he wants to go to a movie or concert, and if so, what movie and concert, and why... etc. Suggest some options you might like too, and try to discuss them.

Also make sure he is actually AWARE that you think his communication skills are lacking. He might just think everything is peachy between the two of you.
