So I recently had my Golden Birthday. I have big plans for this year and high expectations to go along with them. But so far the year hasn't quite gone according to plan.
I worked New Years Eve. Went to a movie with the Mrs New Years day. After the movie she complained about painful cramps. Five hours later we were in the emergency room with her injected with enough morphine to knock out an elephant... but not enough to knock out the pain she was experiencing. The pain was caused by a 3mm kidney stone in her left kidney. This was the 2nd episode of kidney stones for her. It is not only more uncommon for woman to get kidney stones but very uncommon for a woman as young as she is to get them.
After a sleepless night in the ER I had some work to get done that just couldn't wait until tomorrow. After finishing that I tried to get some sleep only to be woken numerous times by the telephone, the neighbors, a barking dog and numerous other noises that must have been conspiring against me that afternoon. So I got up and accomplished all of nothing the rest of the day.
The next day we learned from the urologist that the only course of action to take was to let the stone pass naturally. So the MRs is kept on a strict diet of oxycodone which keeps her in various states of unconscious. The other good news we received is that there are two more stones in her right kidney which have yet to start causing pain... but probably will.
We signed up for new health insurance, literally, one day before all of this happened, which is the one good piece of news, but since we don't have our insurance cards yet, dealing with the hospital and urologist and PCP have been dramatically less then pleasant.
So while the year has so far been quite exciting, it is far from being described as fun... but hey, there are 361 days left... right?
so sorry for the Mrs. ....but almost sorrier for you since she appears to be unconscious a lot of the time. That blows chunks. I hope it all works out. Insurance companies are a bitch.
To Mrs. Jpin - For a Speedy Recovery!
To you - Just because you deserve a beer!

Thanks Kristie... and if you don't mind I'll take two...
Oh man, jpin, that sucks! So sorry that both of you have had to go through that, more sympathy for her of course but I know it's a heck of a burden on the spouse/ caregiver, too.
Good news is now she has plenty of practice for childbirth.
Heh.
No?
Well, hoping that this ends as quickly and painlessly as possible...
Oh and happy birthday!
I had my golden birthday several years back, it sucked too, I forget the nature of it's suckiness but I remember it sucked.
What the hell is a golden birthday?
Kicky, it's when you and your partner...
no, no.
It's when the date corresponds with your age. Like, turning 26 on the 26th.

Oh! Okay, had mine a long time ago. Don't even remember it. I'm pretty sure I got drunk though.
Yours is on the 6th, isn't it. kicky?
Happy golden birthday Kristie!
(If I can remember how old jpin is I can figure out if he and I have the same b'day...)
Kicky, have you been avoiding me?
Of course not. Why would you say that?

Funny you should mention it... there was an ER nurse there that said she has had stones and given birth and stones, in her opinion, are far worse. So yeah... she's got some practice now.
The worst part about it, for me that is, was being so helpless... there was nothing I could do to help except sit there and watch her cry in pain. I hate feeling helpless.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes.
