Hey. Would anyone be able to explain to me why suddenly there's a use of present tense in this excerpt below?
"[...] fading now that there was no sound of Filch and Snape, Harry moved nearer to the mirror, wanting to look at himself but see no reflection again."
There are no tenses involved after "moved". When describing an desired action involving a verb, in the past present or future, we can use "want" followed by the infinitive. I want to eat; you wanted to sing; he will want to run. The action he wanted to perform, to look at himself but [to] see no reflection again" consists of two verbs in the infinitive: look and see.
I want to eat but gain no weight. =
I want to eat .....but.... I want to gain no weight
