The following sentence is taken from Practical English Usage by Michael Swan:
They say her husband's been seeing THAT Mrs Hastings again.
My question is this:
When do you use this kind of grammar structure, that is, "that" followed by a proper noun?
Would you please give me some examples?
Thank you.
In this sentence, "that" is meant to show that something (this woman) is specific or notorious.
Other samples:
I wouldn't be caught in THAT hat.
If he dates THAT girl, he will regret it.
Mrs. Hastings must have a reputation and she is being pointed out.
