I need help with the pronunciation of a phrase. The phrase is et resurgent, spiro vitam, which I think means, And again, I breathe life. Where is the accent in resurgent? reSURgent? or resurGENT. I am nearly certain that spiro is pronounced SPEEro and vitam weeTOM. Can anyone help?

@laurawilloughby,
I was taught Latin in an English public school (Alleyn's, Dulwich) in the 1960s. The accent is generally on the penultimate syllable.

ResURgent - Res -'e' as in best, men, wet. Accent on UR. Hard 'g' like God, go, give

SpIro - short 'i' like in pin, thin, it, big, etc

vItam 'v' pronounced like modern 'w', like with, will, win. Rhymes with ham, spam, jam, Pam, Sam.

@centrox,
I agree with Centrox. It's a long time since my 4 years of Latin, but he explained what I agree with quite well.

That was at a catholic high school in California (US).
