Amazing videos from motion sensitive cameras placed in the Facahatchee Strand State Preserve in September and October of 2017 before and after Hurricane Irma. Two cameras placed in different locations record various animals including black bear, Florida Panthers, opossums, squirrels, rabbits, deer, and various birds including great blue herons, limpkins, night herons, Blue Jays, ibises and others, and a lone alligator.

This is one of my old haunts in Florida. This is where the action took place in the film adaptation with Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep.

The Fakahatchee Strand is located in Southwest Florida about 30 miles east of Naples.

Here's some more videos from Tim Harrell with a motion activated camera placed in what looks like the Fakahatchee Strand. A short video with Bobcats, bear, deer, and a cottonmouth that he doesn't like. Also numerous bromeliads, ferns and strap ferns, ghost orchids, and other plants.

@rosborne979,
O-k. I think that animal is beautiful -- at first glance. That squirrel. Geez. I thought rodents were supposed to be drab and ugly. That one is like Toucan Sam! Colors.

But..then again coral snakes are beautiful too.. And I know squirrels can carry rabies. And I know India has a high rate of deaths (people deaths) from rabies. Squirrels freak me out too. They are nothing more than tree rats.

@coluber2001,
How about Possums. I used to be freaked out by them. Especially their long ugly rat looking tail. But look at this guy on Jimmy Fallon Show talk about them. He says their story is tragic they don't live much longer than a year! Maybe two years. Maybe. Come on that is sad! And they can be tame pets supposedly. If raised young. But how sad to have a pet that you adore knowing it will only live for a couple of years. I have a new respect for Oppossums now. Hey the bible says that judge not based on looks but the heart.

@Carpetbagger,
The thing about opossums is they're so ugly they're cute. Funny looking is more accurate. It's our only marsupial, and it just looks so different from placental mammals. Half of its body is mouth. The young are just adorable like the young of all animals. A friend of mine found two abandoned young opossums and started raising them on formula for about a month, but he put them in an outside run for little bit and the fire ants killed them. They didn't attack the opossums directly but got on some of the food that the opossums ate and the ants bit them in the mouth.

Rats aren't that bad. I heard of one group of scientists who stopped using rats for some of their more distasteful experiments, and they started using lawyers instead. When asked why they said, "because, there are some things a rat just won't do."
