dear all "Data are frequently lost and referenced out of context." I can not understand the meaning of "referenced out of context" in the above sentence.

What's the context of the sentence?
"Referenced out of context" could mean that data is being referred to without regard to the data's setting leading to obfuscation of its significance or meaning.

Data gets lost and shows up someplace else, inappropriately.
