Howta edit

With the bottom of the Edit-Post window jumpin' up and down allatime there must be somebody else among our 100,000 users who has experienced my frustration. So I suggest the following method of editing: Starting with the OP, that is the colorful original posting you want everyone else to read, first look for the initial typo. When you find it, hit EDIT

NOW you hafta find your typo again. To do so, do alt-F, then type the first two or three letters of the word, whereupon, the screen jumpin' bigger if needed,, they'll highlight. NOTE: You can't locate your error by searching for a typo inside the word. You hafta start the word at the beginninbg

For example, to find 'beginnibg' as above, you can't enter 'bg,''cause the search routine is too stupid to find the sequence inside a word. Once having found the typo, however, you now make your correction. But here's where things differ from the usu: Instead of looking for your next typo in the Edit-Post window, go down and hit 'Update,' which will get you back into the OP

However, once you've done it a coupl'v times, you might now get a 'You can't edit this post now' message. This is because the Software Geniuses are not only stupid but mean. They don't want you to edit more than once or twice

Still, their incredible incompetence can be dealt with: Quickly, before the Logic has had a chance to think, go up there to the upper left and hit the left arrowhead: Surprise !! you're back in the editing window ! whereupon you can continue....

The danger of course, is that someone might reply before you're done editing. By the sheerest coincidence, that has happened at this very moment, our good friend Stur kindly intervening [below] to explain another method not requiring you to return to the OP. Of course there are other methods, all however requiring additional keystrokes. So if you'll try my method I'm sure you'
l like it better

Now, some respondents, the TAATANE especially, get really mad when you change your msg after his comment. What yo hafta do, is simply adopt the attitude that all the TAT can go to hell in a handbasket. No, not you Stur

Finally, if your message is very long and involved, as this one is, some sort of [perfectly understandable] Software Thinker [there are one or two smart ones, tho The Industry isd tryin' to get rid of 'em] has arranged to make further corrextioms of this sort impossible

[Oh, Software Demons: nI'm hopin', in maybe 12-18 more years from now, you'll have begun recognizing most of the most common typos, as "'nI'm," 'isd' and 'corrextioms' above. But first yo'll hafta hire Speller Crews with higher IQ's, and they'll hafta be able to touch type]

@dalehileman,
There is another way to edit things dale.

1)open a new window/tab

2)compose your post

3)transfer the post to your e-mail in the newly opened window/tab. Place it in the box as if writing an e-mail, do not hit send (unless you like getting emails from yourself)

4)initiate spellcheck in the e-mail.

5)read your text three or four times, making changes as needed

6)transfer the entire text for your post back to the thread you are creating or the reply post you are entering into a thread.

The method works even for non-methoidists and those who have FBS (fried brain syndrome). It's how I gradually relearned bringing thoughts from my brain to my fingers a few years back.

@Sturgis,
Thank you Stur, yo're very kind to go to all that trouble

Incidentally don't you also find it remarkable that they could recognize "yo're" as a missp but not 'isd'

There are many ways. Things dale are so very common that I'm continually finding new ways to fix 'em without a lotta unnecessary keystrokes

@dalehileman,
Open Letter to Ekim, Yaks Nyl, Eely Toccs, Eleiht Booby
...and others interested in the Software Tragedy:

Finally I can't edit the OP anymore. Well, guys, like I said, that'n's okay. Howeveer I felt compelled to add, 'TAT' is short for 'TAATAME,' the abbr for 'Terribly Angry at All Times About Nearly Everything'

Oh incidentally, if you're lousy typist like me, you might find that makin' all them corrections slidin' your mouse 'round like that, the cursor starts goin' too slow. This is on account of Software Glitch #667,824,671 (b), (c) and I think (f), which interact somehow to slow it down. To easily ad quickly correct this condition, simply lift the mouse and dash it against the table. Occasdionally however, when that doesn't work, try turning it over before smashing it down, almost alwsays works

Oh and Software Clowns: When I alt-F to do a search for a typo, you highlight the first find, but then ignore the one at the bottom of the page. You just hafta start hirin' Speller Bunch with higher IQ's

Oh, and fellas, 'ad' is a missp of 'and,' a very common one. Yes, I know you're confused, 'cause you know that 'ad' is also a word. But if you have a really bright one on your crew, have him contact me dalehi;[email protected], and I'll explain my thinkin'

Oh and about that "touch typin', "you hafta tell 'em, the ';' is right next to the 'l'

Yes, and if you've read some of the above, and you're feelin' creepy, wanna respond to tell me off, then sure enough, mebbe you're one'v us, the TAT

]-----Oh and Eely,I know it isn't 'alt-f,' it's... -------]
