A guy dies towards the beginning and throughout the movie, his mother and his girlfriend try to find closure.

I might have it confused with 'The Music Man', I'll have to give it some thought.

Sound of Music seems more probable if it's one of the two.

Yeah, they had mountains and nuns. Probably Sound of Music.
