Hi, I am new here. I am curious about Christianity because I have a Christian friend who benefits a lot from the religion. So I would like to understand her more. I find the idea of a personal God and a relationship with him to be beneficial. I even call it a him because of my back ground, as it is easier for me to think of it that way. I don't particularly believe God is a him or a her though.
I am just wondering the purpose of Jesus Christ and the bible, as it seems to be adding more stuff to the experience. Which makes it more difficult for me... I mean no disrespect, I have tried enquiring more information from my father who becomes haughty when talking about Christianity. I don't find that type of attitude inspiring or comforting in any way. The atheists I know are similarly rude.
Just a curious non-religious person wondering about these things and I have no one else to ask.
I have seen many people comforted by a belief in God and in Jesus Christ. But I have also seen hurtful things done in the name of Jesus.
I suggest you study religions of the world before accepting anything as a life-guide. And dont accept a religion just because another person likes it.
@PUNKEY,
Thank you for your reply. I will start looking for more info on the internet then. I totally agree with not adopting a religion just because it's more popular. I guess I'm just wondering what is going on with my friend
@Iamcurious,
I am a Christian and I believe that Jesus is God. He became Man and like us was tempted but did not sin. His sinless body was a perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, so His dying on the cross and shedding of His Precious Blood wiped away our sins past, present and future. What we need to do now is ask for forgiveness and He will grant His infinite mercy on us. The Lord loves us so much He even gave us the Holy Spirit to dwell in all of us.
I'm glad that you are seeking Him. It just means that the Holy Spirit is within you guiding you, prodding you to open your heart to Him. Try to read the Bible but first pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you through. God bless!
