Whether archaoeology possible on living monasteries

Friends, my name is Millo and I am thinking of doing archaeology on Tawang monastery. The problem is, these monasteries are still functional and there aren't any ruins in this region. SO, is it possible or practical for me to do archaeology in this topic.
