I have always questioned the way religion works. If God really exist, why would he want us to worship/pray or talk to him in certain way? why would he need formality for us to speak to him?

Isn't relationship with God must be something really personal where no matter who you are, what you are or how you are you must be able to connect with him by heart. You don't need a certain rules to communicate him.

Futher, is it not that creating rules are human behavior, why woulf God threaten us to behave or to worship him in certain way only in order to get his blessing? and all these sometimes makes me ponder upon existence of God.

I've came here to learn about others view in regards of this.

My Anglican background in the 1950s was that you addressed God as 'Lord', and were formal. My Salvation Army aunt, and her colleagues just said "Hello God", and my niece's happy-clappy Baptists say "Hi, God". I don't think formality is needed.

@naziah,
Where did you get the idea that God demands formality?
Rhetorical question, I'm sure you probably got it from exposure to some religion or other.

The bible verse that came to mind was one about how to pray. It said not to do it like most churches do, that is - in public where you get the approval of men. It said to go into your closet and pray to God in private and get God's approval.

The 'closet' part is not literal of course, it just illustrates the point of it being between just you and him. And there is no need for bowing, kneeling, etc. either. He just wants you to honestly talk with him any way you feel comfortable.

@naziah,
God, much like our parents, has a ruleset and a code of conduct, but the formalities of the old testament we're eliminated with the birth and sacrifice of his son, Jesus.

There are VERY few requirements to "be a Christian" and zero formalities. God expects us to believe in him, believe he sent his son as a sacrifice, follow the basic rules of the ten commandments, tell others about our relationship with God, give part of what we earn to help others (God wants us to also experience a small level of sacrifice), and to have fellowship with others.

Talking to God is even easier, you just have to do it. Imagine you were talking to your mom or dad, telling them about your day, the good, the bad, the experiences you are thankful for, the things you had trouble dealing with, etc.

Modern organized religion has made it complicated so the church has purpose and a reason to fill the seats (and collect money). The biblical church was a group of folks gathering at Bob's house on a Thursday evening to sing, pray, eat some food, and enjoy each other's company while talking about God.
