Why can't indifference curves intersect either coordinate axis?

Why can't indifference curves intersect the x or y axis? It seems to make perfect sense to say a consumer is indifferent between a combination of 5 of Good A and 0 of Good B, and a combination of 2 of A and 3 of B.
