how do I find out the make?
I will be interested in the answers you get. I'm lazy today and don't want to disturb my workroom to try and find the make of mine (originally my parents'). I figure it was and is rather usual for a cedar chest circa 1935 or slightly earlier.
I have a feeling they aren't worth a hell of a lot, as there were plenty of them around, and they are still handy to have; for me, it's a parental connection from before I was born.
I have a faint memory that a2k friend Roger brought his family hope chest to my house, so the ABQ city trash folks would pick it up, after some rigmarole, but, as it happened, a guy who was part of a family a few houses down the street but didn't live there noticed it sitting in the parkway space, and we managed to give it to him, easier for both of us and a find for the guy, who had a plan to fix it up properly. He gave me his card, so he was straightforward.
