Good question about the discrepancy between the two numbers. It seems to be a lot, but here are a few possibilities: the forum "loses" some for special reasons -- either because they were not within the bounds of use or because they were dropped during one of the infrequent outages. There might be other causes too.... I think sometimes duplicate posts are made so that a thread which has seriously digressed can be made into two. <shrug> Maybe someone who has direct knowledge will come on and tell you if this is right.
