Malpractice?

1 year and 8 days ago my fiance passed away in my arms. Long story short she had severe stomach pains and on Thursday evening I took her to the emergency room. A doctor assessed the situation, diagnosed her with acute pancreatitis, gave her an iv of saline solution, then said "There's no treatment for this it just has to work it's way through, by Monday you should be just fine." Sunday morning I was awoken by a sound I never want to hear again in my life. I rolled over to discover she was in a seizure from what appeared to be from only the neck up. Teeth locked, eyes unresponsive and bulging out, and foaming at the mouth. I immediately called 911 and held her while the paramedics were in-route. Needless to say they didn't make it in time. Now in all fairness she had an irregular heartbeat and from what I was told the stress from the pancreatitis overworked her heart which caused fluid to build up, somehow it found it's way to her brain causing the seizure. The seizure in turn stopped her already overburdened heart, I was also told defibulation is difficult with an irregular heartbeat. Sorry for the long story but I want all the details on the table and 100% accurate. Was the Dr that said nothing could be done and there was no way to treat acute pancreatitis correct in her diagnosis? Or did she just have a long day and didn't feel like dealing with it? A month later another person I know went to a different hospital with the same affliction and was kept there for a very long time...any advice would help with the closure. Thank you all for your time and input. I loved her then and I still love her now =(

@Heartbroken4life,
Are you wanting to file a lawsuit?

Acute pancreatitis is one of those things they do some tests, maybe imagining, make sure you aren't dehydrated, and send you home. It sounds like your fiance suffered a perfect storm of medical issues. I know you want to blame something or someone, but this is one of those unfortunate events where a bad thing happened and nothing is to blame but the fact that her body stopped working.

Find, attend, and follow through with some grief counseling to help you work through this. It was a traumatic event and it's okay to feel sad and angry and it is okay to seek help in dealing with those feelings.

I might add that one has to have some sort of legal standing to sue. I'm almost certain that would not included fiancé.

@Heartbroken4life,
If you think there was malpractice, then go to a lawyer, go directly to a lawyer. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. But work with her family on that, because they might not want to go that route.

If you don't, then get yourself some grief counseling. In fact, get the grief counseling either way.

@tibbleinparadise,
Thank you Tibble, and no I'm not looking for a lawsuit or compensation of any kind. I blame myself for accepting that doctors prognosis and not seeking a second opinion. The only thing I'm looking for is answers. As for grief counseling I haven't put much thought into it. I'd imagine the counselor will just say something to the tune of "she would want you to move on and be happy". I just need closure and time to mend...but answers would certainly expedite the process. Thank you all for taking a moment to reply, it is appreciated =)

@Heartbroken4life,
Don't dismiss grief counseling out of hand. Seriously, it's probably not what you think it is.
