For small businesses, I am thinking that it is perfectly normal not to purchase an accounting software like quickbooks and use excel instead. On the other hand, there are also a lot of functions that QB would have that are close to compliance reminders. What are other risks of not getting an accounting software for a business?

You could probably torture Excel into doing anything an accounting program would do, but if you have more than a couple of transactions per month, messing with the computer will be all you have time for.
