why coming out?

Hello everyone!

I just joined this forum and I would very much like to have more insights on the following topic since I have been thinking about this for a while. So, I like both guys and girls and since I have 'found this out' for many the first thing would be the 'coming out issue', right? My question now is; why coming out? Isn't it supposed to be normal no matter who you fall for? You don't come out as heterosexual, thus why coming out as homosexual/bisexual/trans, or else? By making it somehting 'special' and an 'issue' to come out, aren't we maintaining the gap between homo and hetero, maintaining the idea of homo being an abnormality? To close the gap between hetero and homo, and the discrimination and incomprehension, we should start by considering it normal and not a 'coming out' issue. People will notice who you fall for the moment you introduce your partner!

Also, the thing is, I do sort of get it. I too have the urge to scream it from the rooftops, but somehow these principles prevent me from doing just that. This might sound very contradictive...Smile

Maybe you totally disagree and I would love to hear your statement. Let me know what you think!!

Love,

@Femme,
A chief reason for coming out, that is announcing a sexual preference, would be that society as a whole, has been known to disapprove of what it has deemed to be "normal ", normal supposedly being heterosexual.

By stating that one is bisexual, homosexual, asexual or transsexual or anything else which may meet with resistance, it both makes it become fully integrated and normal to people and helps a person who (because of the narrow-mindedness of many), has been to timid or scared to let anyone know, or live their life to the fullest by embracing who they are.

In time, this may no longer be an issue, it has already lessened greatly from where it was 40 or 60 years ago.
