I used to copy famous art works during boring class since I don't love lectures. Usually, I stay at home don't know what to do but draw pictures. Gradually, I can feel my drawing level a little bit improved, the copy works are quite similar to the original paintings.
Now I begin to hate drawing, knowing that I'm not a genius, just because I practised more times than the average people, then my works seems a little bit cool. But my dad thought I’m very talented, and he let me learn to draw a portrait of people to make a living in the future....
I'm very depressed, although I do poorly in school, am I reduced to painting a portrait to earn a living?
Can you tell me what can you do after learning art? Or what can you benefit from art?

Why do you draw in the first place, rather than do sudoku or crosswords? I suspect you actually like it. If that's the case, you derive pleasure from it, and that's a benefit.

Plenty of people make a living through drawing.

@eve55,
Don't stop drawing, because it makes you happy. Also, try to look into more than one career in the field of art. Don't limit yourself to just drawing portraits. Maybe consider becoming a cartoonist, or an illustrator for a children's book. Since you enjoy drawing people, maybe you can even become a courtroom sketch artist. I like to draw, too. I never claimed to be the best, or the worst. I don't want to learn about structure. I don't care to, because it's cathartic for me. I like the freedom of not knowing what's technically right, or wrong when it comes to skill. My father was a trained artist. For me, it is just a hobby. I don't care if I don't have the skills to make it a career. I wouldn't even care if some people would laugh at what I draw. They can even tell me I can't draw. I do it for fun, but you on the other hand, seemingly want to start a career in visual arts. Maybe becoming an illustrator, cartoonist, or courtroom sketch artist would benefit you.
