fill the appropriate determiners

I thought the following determiners. Tell me if I'm wrong. I've put determiners in the brackets:


On (the) 5th of November, which was (the) beginning of summer in (many) parts, (the) weather being very misty, (the) sailors saw (a) rock close by (the) ship.

(The) wind was so strong that we were driven to (a) rock, and (the) ship began to break up.

Five of (the) sailors and myself let down (a) boat into (the) sea, and tried to get away from the ship and (zero article) rock.

We rowed until we could not row any longer, being already tired from too great labour, while we were in (the) ship.

In about half (an) hour (the) boat was upset by (the) waves.

What happened to (the) friends I cannot tell, but I think (most) of them must have been lost.

As for myself, I swam as well as I could, pushed forward by wind and wave.

I often let (my) legs drop and could not touch (any) bottom. But just when I could not swim any longer, I got to (the) shore. It was about 8 o'clock in (the) evening.
