I have been suffering from abdominal and back pain for 2 months now. The pain is in my upper abdomen and mid back. It feels burning and feels better when I lay down and lean my back. Mostly the pain starts while standing (can be during taking a shower, or cooking or anytime). I live in Thailand and last month I went to the hospital where I got full blood test, full abdominal ultrasound, also stool test. The results are good so the doctor decided that I might have an ulcer and prescribed ulcer medicine, antibiotics and abdominal painkillers. So I got much hope and went home with joy. After a few days the pain got less, so then I felt even better. I was sure it was ulcer and the medicine was helping. Just a few days ago I had another huge cramp of my stomach and midback. Since then I have the same pain every day. The only thing that helps is Tylenol extra strengh and leaning my back on a pillow. Today I can't stand up at all. The pain makes me feel in panic which makes my situation even harder. I am starting to think that my problem is not ulcer and it might be my contraceptive pills (Yaz) that I have been taking for 1 year. Or may be the ultrasound doctor didn't examine me well,,,I am lost. Please help me with advice.
Thank you very much!
@anul,
It might be kidney stones. See a urologist and have a urinalysis done.
@rosborne979,
I have had a urinalysis and they said I have no stones ...
@anul,
Then go back and get them to check your for irritable bowel syndrome (I am not a doctor). And don't give up until you get answers. Don't just smile and thank them if they don't fix (or at least figure out) what's wrong with you. That's their job and they are not doing it.
@jespah,
Thank you for your advice!
As I have mentioned I live in Thailand and it costs a lot to get checked if there is no insurance. But I guess I will need to go back again...
One big motivation people have to post their illness symptoms on an online information/opinion forum is the chance they may get free advice to help them. No matter how ill-advised it may be to ask total strangers for serious healthcare advice, we all know that's part of the motivation.
So it always strikes me as kind of funny when the advice some people give (with authority and enthusiasm, no less) is "Go to the doctor, and keep going until you're satisfied!" As if that's something that never would occur to them otherwise. It almost makes me think that the people who so blithely give that advice have no clue about how it is to struggle to survive; to try to balance and choose between necessities. If you've ever had to choose between paying the light bill or the water bill, or between treating a tooth abscess or a stomach ulcer, wouldn't it temper the way you look at the difficulties of others?
Maybe not...
@snood,
Snood,
You are right! Sometimes it is very expensive and irritating to go to hospital. I went to the hospital with the money in my purse and with no hopes. And actually they didn't give me any exact diagnosis, telling me that I MIGHT have an ulcer. I spent 200+ dollars and didn't get much help. I am not blaming anyone. Just can be the day like that or I didn't choose the right hospital etc. It's just hard to spend that much again (10 days later) and not be sure if this visit would be successful. Hopefully everything will get a little better!
Thank you for your answer.
@anul,
I'm sorry this is happening - and it's true, cultures differ and I apologize for not taking that into consideration.
Still, you're not being served by the people who are supposed to be helping you. And if you have a truly serious condition, then that's got to be treated somehow.
@jespah,
No need for apology. Cultures really differ and there is a language barrier also. So this kind of health problems might be hard to diagnose here but I won't give up.
Did they rule out gall bladder problem?
@PUNKEY,
Yes,they did. They did blood test and ultrasound.
