How has the milky way aided in the advancement of our understanding of how the universe operates?
@KeatonE9,
In just about every way imaginable. We didn't even know there were other galaxies until something like the 1800s.
@jespah,
Wasn't Hubble who figured out, that M-31, Andromeda, was another Galaxy ?
@Fil Albuquerque,
I know Victorians knew the term 'galaxy' but I think at the time it was just a theory that there were others beyond our own.
"Milky Way" is a proper name, and should be spelled with capital letters.
